The GCC Experience

An integral part of the conference is the delegates overall experience. It is important to us to offer various forms of education for all types of learners and move beyond the traditional classrooms and labs. The Global Marketplace for Ideas (Science Atrium) will be the main gathering place for attendees between sessions and will be designed to facilitate the free exchange of ideas. There will be food and drink to snack on as well as booths highlighting various student clubs, NGOs and other organizations.

Community Event: Spoken Word Slam Competition

Saturday 7:30PM Kitchener City Hall (*Free Matter of Taste Coffee)

In partnership with SPEAKout, the Global Citizenship Conference will be co-hosting this amazing and inspiring community event! SPEAKout is a “Spoken Word Slam whose aim is to provide a platform for Canada’s best young talent in a tasteful environment that recognizes the art of Spoken Word as a vehicle that, properly mobilized, can awaken the slumberous & inspire great wonders.” This event is a part of an effort of the Global Citizenship Conference to bridge the gap between our ‘university’ and our ‘community,’ in order to foster a dialogue between the discourse of the conference and social reality within our larger communities.

The 4th Annual REdress Fashion Show:

“Undressing    Oppression”

A theatrical performance art piece that uses the movements and structure of a fashion show to convey socially and politically significant messages through strategically designed and placed multi-media, music, acting and costumes. Previous performances have encapsulated the themes of gendered violence, food, and community. This years theme is a dialogue about oppression. The movement from one scene to the next will tell the story about how certain groups within society lose their voice because of their gender, skin color, language, political views and sexual orientation. Not all hope is lost, as the scenes leading into the climax of the performance will demonstrate ways in which these precious voices can be regained.
